I Have a Bad Feeling About This... as well you should!

Henry Lambert and his best friend, Randy are shipped off to survival camp by their parents for a two week course... intended to make men out of two teens who were decidedly not men. When they arrived, they met three other teens in the same situation.

Their camp councellor/instructor is Max, a gung-ho military drill instructor. Dressed in camo clothing with bulging muscles. Although intimidating, he's really not that bad a guy.

The boys do push-ups, run, eat meals fit for a king, if said king was a prize hog. The outhouse has something alive in the bottom of the pit that scares little kids. The boys attack their survival lessons with varying degrees of success and enthusiasm. They are all trying to learn what they can so they can compete in the final survival games at the end of the two weeks course.

All goes well until a stretch limo arrives with Mr. Grand and his two thugs. It seems that the owner of the camp owes the local mob a lot of money, and the 'boys' are here to collect, already having dealt with the owner. Naturally, Max doesn't have a clue about the owner's problems, which leads to an unfortunate conflict with Mr. Grand.

The boys are required to finish their survival course early and make an effort to deal with three gun-toting thugs... or die trying. Aided by a heart throb clarinet player from the nearby music camp, the boys and girl take on the thugs in action reminiscent of the 'Home Alone' films.

This is a funny book! It's quite suitable for children 10 and up through adult. There is some blood and mayhem involved. The outhouse comes close to claiming a victim. A crippled bird almost fatally attacks a man and a fake grenade is used to great effect. There's also some inadvertent facial waxing with a frying pan and eyelashes are torn out along with some nose twisting.

All in all, this is a really fun book! I enjoyed it immensly. The characters are real and the humor is addicting. In addition, the reader is supplied with some great Survival Tips, which, if followed, will probably cause death or serious bodily harm.

Strand has a truly demented sense of humor, it truly shines forth in, I Have a Bad Feeling About This. Buy it. You'll like it.

My brother recommended this because we have similar tastes in books. I loved it! There was nothing at all boring about it.
I only recently discovered Jeff Strand, I never heard of him until I did a search for horror comedy. his books came up with good reviews so I thought would take a look. This guy is freaking awesome. His humor is spot on and his stories are twisted enough that your not sure what's going to happen next. So far this is my favorite book after Kumquat which really wasn't horror novel at all' If you want a laugh out load story with suspense I would highly recommend this book. I know it was written for the YA demographic but it certainly is an enjoyable read for a anyone who needs a distraction while they are at work (during breaks of course) I highly recommend this book
Jeff Strand is one very funny guy! And he seems to have captured the thoughts of the young teens portrayed in this novel about a boys' summer survival camp gone wrong. Although I'm a woman in her fifties, I guffawed like a twelve year old boy while reading this book. It reminded me a bit of "Jacob Two Two Meets the Hooded Fang", but for a slightly older audience.
This was a funny, fun book. Obviously it's geared towards teens, teen boys specifically, and though I'm far from my 16 year old teen years I laughed through this entire short novel. Strand has a sharp wit, even in his adult horror novels, and here it has free reign. It's a book that never takes itself seriously, but keeps you reading and laughing all the way through. Highly recommend it for all ages. )
I too had a very bad feeling about this book when I started reading it. However, the further along I got in the book, the more impressed I was with Jeff Strands sense of humor, wit, and various crazy scenarios proposed throughout this story. If there were such a thing as a survival wilderness camp that functioned like this one, I'd be all for sending a few of the young male bucks that I know! I'm sure this place would build their character in no time flat! As for the psychotic, murdering fiends who show up to camp threatening everyone's survival, well...not everything is going to be all sunshine and roses, am I right?
I don't even know where to start. This book was just awesome.

I'm not a big fan of violent books, I haven't read The Hunger Games or similar series, but for some reason the violence in this book didn't bother me as much as it has in others. It does get pretty intense at some points. However, there are situations that happen and in no way, shape, or form should they be funny but they were and I was laughing so hard.

If you like humor, if you like action, if you just like a doggone good read I recommend this book. It's not just for young adults as I am not one and highly enjoyed this story.

The thing I love about Strand is how he makes us care about the characters. No matter who, we grow some form of attachment to everybody. Even the people we are supposed to be against we can find enjoyment in them.
With this tale we spend the first half loving the extreme dopiness of the five boys and their mentor at survival camp. The comedy during the first half is priceless.
The second half of the book turns to an extremely tense cat and mouse game, but still retains the humor.
The only part that makes me think of a missed opportunity is that during the action we cut away from time to time to the movie premier of the story in the book. I can't help but think how great it would have been had this book not had those moments, but instead we would be treated to a sequel on the making of this movie with these characters and the Greatest Zombie Movie characters. That would have been amazing!
In the end, Strand is simply amazing.
