Rife with inconsistencies. Everyone in the book has multiple personalities. None of the characters actually manage to do or say things that would make each one a person. One girl dies and everyone is totally cool with it - even though she's one of the main supporting characters.Spoiler alert!!
So, after a whole bunch of deaths and horrible things at the hand of the demon Savannah has been following around trying to kill, she learns that he has been possessing the guys she has been dating. So obviously she loves him? And then even though he spends the whole book tormenting her, killing her friends, and trying to kill her, he suddenly loves her too? Then she stabs him and he dies. K. K? Got that? And then, she suddenly goes back to feeling nothing for either guy who is in love with her. We don't get information on how they feel about that because the book ends.

"Caged in Darkness" by J.D. Stroube was a good paranormal novel that once you got into this read you could get caught up into it especially if you love a witch story. This author really knows how to keep the readers attention giving you a very detail read. I found the characters were so well developed and described in such a way they seemed to come to life as you were reading this novel. Poor Savannah Cross was truly one that had lived a life that had been horrible and from this storyline will keep you turning the pages. There will be a lot of twist in this story so you will never really know what is going to happen next. If you are into a good paranormal read with witches, magic, psychics, supernatural, demons, angels, gods, shifters and horror, you have come to the right place for "Caged in Darkness" will give it all to you. Would I recommend?
I would have left 4 1/2 stars, but couldn't. In the beginning of the book, it seemed like part was missing. The story went from Savannah sitting on the trunk of the car she hid in, to her walking down the street in the town her old coven was in. Other than a few grammar/spelling mistakes, I really liked the book. Read it in less than a day, and looking forward to the next book
I worried that it'd be another "Twilight" knock off and yes, there are elements, but Ms. Stroube spins it in an interesting direction. Protagonist Savannah has a hell of a backstory that deftly plays into the unfolding events. Sure there's the love triangle, but there's a reason that goes deeper than the usual "one supernatural creature vs. the other" trope. The characters are a bit horny and I had to keep reminding myself they're 15-17 and not 21-15, but you get used to it. Good action sequences as well.
Of note - there is a special edition of this book that adds some material. I'm sure you get the complete story here, but I'd go with the SE to get the full story.
I was gifted this book. I must say I went in without any true expectations as this was a new author to me. I expected paranormal but not anything near what was delivered. We get a little magic, a little shifter, a little demon, a little death and a lot of story line. I loved the character development, the three way love story and the twist at the end. I am excited to see where the story goes for Savannah and her friends. I feel that this book was poorly edited though and although I know that authors reading their own work sometimes have difficulty with the whole "what they think is there vs what really is there" but this book needs a lot of editorial fixes with grammar, spelling and word usage. I give this four fangs for the great story line but dock the fang for the editing as I expect more from authors.
Awesome! That's the best way to describe this book. I bought this for my kindle on a whim, I was disappointed in the series I had been reading and wanted something different. I was very pleasantly surprised. This book was very different than most of the stuff I have read , but in a good way. The story is told from different perspectives, which really made for a great pace. The characters were very interesting and well fleshed out. I LOVED the main character Savannah. She was very cleverly written. She had a great back-story that makes you completely invested in her, and you find yourself really rooting for this girl. The author gives us a unique glance into the minds of two of the other characters which really makes you more invested in their stories as well. I couldn't put this book down, from the very first page I was hooked. The book moves along very fast , with lots of neat twist and turns. I will admit the kindle version has several typo's but its not too distracting. I highly HIGHLY recommend this to fans of paranormal/urban fantasy books. This is a big winner in my opinion.

I want to start off by saying "Wow", I was unable to put the book down until I found out what happened and how they were done! I mean it! I had to push back my shower (which I normally take while kids are napping)!!!!
This is a story about a young girl who was born a witch. Her mother and her father, who once was good witches, had gotten addicted to the power and became dark witches. When this happened they caged Savannah in a caged, would only let her out to bath when they couldn't take the smell anymore, just neglect her all together. When Savannah was 9 she escaped and found her self where her parents where once in a coven at. Savannah is taken in and taken care of. Weeks before her 16th birthday, Savannah discovers things from her past that might change her future for the worst.
I was not sure I would like this book. I was kinda skeptic on the whole Wiccan idea, thought it would be like a Charmed or The Craft and didn't think someone could live up to them. Well... I loved this book! I have already added her next book to my list to purchase! There was some notion to sex.. but nothing a Mature teenager would be "harmed" by if they read.
All authors have a style to them in their writing that you have to get used to before you get in the flow of the book. I did not have any problems here!
